End-of-placement review with the student
At the end of the placement, the school or college will ask you to take part in a short review to record what the student has achieved and how they’ve performed in their role. It’s also an opportunity to reflect on their motivation, adaptability, and strengths, and to share suggestions for how they can continue developing their skills and working towards their career goals.
The school or college will provide a simple form and make sure the review is completed. They may join the discussion or follow up afterwards to collect your comments. The conversation usually takes around 15–20 minutes.
Before completing your review, it can be helpful to gather feedback from anyone who has supervised or worked closely with the student. Your school or college will already have carried out mid-point or one-to-one reviews, so there should be examples and notes to draw on.
During the review, you’ll be asked to comment on the student’s progress:
- against their agreed learning goals
- in their performance and behaviour in the workplace
- in their technical, communication and interpersonal skills
Once the form is completed and signed, the school or college will record the main points as part of the student’s placement evidence and use it to confirm completion.
Your feedback is invaluable. It helps students understand their strengths and next steps, and it helps schools, colleges, and employers to improve future placements.
